Abstract

The subject-matter of the research are the semantic types of perceptual predicates. The theme of the research is «Semantic types of predicates of perception in the modern Ukrainian literary language». The objective of the paper is the elucidation of criteria of differentiation of the predicates of perception and ranking of perceptual predicates. The methodology of the paper is conditioned by the specifics of the theme and is based on such scientific methods as the descriptive and functional analyses. The academic novelty of the study lies in the fact that for the first time in Ukrainian linguistics semantic types of predicates of perception is characterized and defined by their differential features and criteria ranking. The field of appliance of the obtained results is linguistics. The article studies semantic types of predicates of perception and their explication in the modern Ukrainian literary language. Based on the analysis of linguistic research clarified the classification criteria of perceptual predicates, leading among which is the semantic. It is offered distinction between contact and non-contact predicates of perception, which are also differentiated into five groups – predicates visual, audio, olfactive, gustative and tactile perception. Special attention is paid to the selection of subgroups of perceptual predicates, which are distinguished by semа «to perceive» – «to be perceived» – «to use the ability of perception».
