Setting Up Village Information Centres for Farmers of Odisha: A Pilot Survey

Abstract

Present survey is a pilot study for setting up Village Information Centres (VICs) for farmers of Odisha. The survey covers 15 Revenue villages of Deogaon block of Balangir district, Odisha in which a total numbers of 380 farmers were surveyed. An attempt has been made to identify the main sources on which farmers depend for their daily information, the kinds of frequently needed information and their approaches towards setting up of Village Information Centres. Also, the study has revealed the age group, gender and educational qualifications of the farmers.
