SHARIAH – THE SACRED LAW AND THE HUMAN RIGHTS IN ISLAM

Journal Title: Revista Romana de Studii Eurasiatice - Year 2007, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

The article is an attempt of analyzing human rights in Islam, in connection with Shariah, and by comparing with European human rights. The sources are the Coran, the Declaration of Human Rights in Islam (1981) and the Cairo Declaration of Human Rights in Islam (1990). Fundamental rights and universal freedoms in Islamic world are parts of the Islamic religion, and no one has the right to suspend or ignore them “because they are divine commandments”. Islamic Shariah is the only source of reference for the explanation of the articles. This paper is a schematic compareson of two systems of protecting human rights: European and Islamic.
