Shear bond strenght of compomer to deciduous dentin surface after air abrasion and conventional preparation – experimental studies
Journal Title: Nowa Stomatologia - Year 2015, Vol 20, Issue 1
Abstract
Introduction. Preparation and cavity restoration of deciduous teeth entail numerous difficulties because of its lower degree of mineralization and small quantity of hard tissue. Contemporary dentistry pays special attention to the minimal invasive preparation, principally important in pediatric dentistry. Air abrasion system may be an alternative to rotary instruments for dental hard tissues preparation, however removing of the smear layer in total-etch technique, or its modification using self-etch systems is required by this technique.Aim. The aim of this study was to assess bond strength of compomer – Compoglass F to primary dentin surface after air or conventional bur preparation and subsequent application of two adhesive systems (tech. total-etch) – Opti Bond Solo Plus and self-etch Xeno V.Material and methods. 118 samples of primary canine, first and second molars was examined. Total-etch system was applied on 28, whereas self-etch on 30 air abraded specimens. 60 samples were bur prepared to achieve a homogeneous rough surface, 31 of them were covered with total-etch and 29 with self-etch adhesive. All samples were bonded with compomer – Compoglass F. For the shear bond testing the specimens were examined in a universal testing machine Zwick Roell Z005 (Germany).Results. The mean bond strengths value of air abraded samples bonded with compomer was significantly higher for Xeno V – 3.897300 MPa than Opti Bond Solo Plus – 2.502679 MPa. The mean bond strengths value of bur preparation was 3.652774 MPa for Opti Bond Solo Plus and 5.497552 MPa for Xeno V, respectively.Conclusions. Better bond strength values of compomer-dentine interface were obtained after self etching systems, than total-etch application. Air abraded samples achieved lower bond strength values in shear test than bur prepared ones.
