SheepNet: Management of Ewes to Increase the Survival of Lambs

Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Public and Social Science - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Since 75% of lamb deaths occur in the first week after the birth of lambs, it is essential to manage lambing sheep to reduce lamb mortality. Early colostrum intake and sheep lamb tie are important issues. Avoiding stress and good nutrition is a very important point in lambing sheep, especially young sheep. Reducing help at birth is also an important factor. Consider recording lambing events and choosing animals with good survival characteristics by not reusing sheep and rams that require more than one help at birth. Condition scoring and pregnancy screening will help you manage lambing sheep and prepare for multiple births.
