Should a child with renal agenesis be under the care of a nephrologist?

Journal Title: Postępy Nauk Medycznych - Year 2011, Vol 24, Issue 12

Abstract

Congenital urinary tract is a common problem in pediatric practice. Renal agenesis is sometimes associated with other defects of the genitourinary system or urological abnormalities. Urinary tract infections are a particularly serious problem in children with solitary kidney. The issue of increased risk of hypertension, proteinuria or renal failure in patients with congenital absence of kidney problem remains unresolved. We present a case of a child who, despite early diagnosis of congenital malformation of the urinary system is not subject to specialist nephrological care.
