Sigara Bırakma Polikliniğine Başvuran Kişilerin Sağlık Anksiyetesi Ölçeği ile Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract
Aim: People who apply to smoking cessation units are worrying about developing a disease caused by smoking. The aim of this study is to evaluate health anxiety in smokers and the relation with some variables. Methods: Health Anxiety Inventory Short Form along with a questionnaire including Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence and was self-administered to the patients who applied to smoking cessation unit during the period of February and March 2017. Data was analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics 22. Results: This study was performed with 173 patients; 100 (57.8%) men and 73 (42.2%) women. The age range was between 19 and 66. Mean total Health Anxiety Inventory score was 17.34±8.55. The mean Health Anxiety Inventory subscale score was13.76±6.92. Subscale scores of 23.6% of participants (n=41) were over 20 which shows significant health anxiety. There was not significant correlation between Fagerström and Health Anxiety Inventory scores (p=0.422). Mean scores in women, in participants who were married and had children was higher but was not significant. Participants quitting smoking because of fear of disease had significantly higher Health Anxiety Inventory scores (p=0.023). Conclusion: Higher nicotine dependence scores did not have any significant associations with health anxiety. Patients quitting smoking with thought of developing a disease had higher health anxiety scores.
