Simvastatin Induced Rhabdomyolysis of Anterior Compartment of Leg Resulting in Foot Drop
Journal Title: Malaysian Orthopaedic Journal - Year 2009, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
A 65-year-old physically active man presented with sudden onset leg pain and inability to dorsiflex his foot following a trivial fall. There was no tenseness in the anterior compartment and compartment pressure was normal. Three days later he developed erythema with pitting oedema of the leg. Serum creatine kinase was 14000 U/l initially which gradually decreased. Subsequent Doppler scans and MRI showed evidence of myositis involving the entire anterior compartment. The patient reported a history of simvastatin use for the past year. A nerve conduction study confirmed common peroneal nerve palsy. This case report highlights a rare complication of simvastatin use presenting with foot drop resulting from muscle damage and nerve palsy.

Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures: Unipolar Versus Bipolar Hemiarthroplasty
Background and objective: Intracapsular femoral neck fractures are common in the elderly population. To avoid the poor outcome of internal fixation and for early mobilization, hemiarthroplasty is performed. However, ther...
Management of Intraarticular Calcaneal Fractures by Minimally Invasive Sinus Tarsi Approach-Early Results
The operative treatment of displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures has been a controversial topic. Soft tissue conditions and concomitant disease must be considered in these patients. The minimally invasive sinus ta...
Open Reduction of Neglected Knee Dislocation: Case Report of a Rare Injury
Old neglected dislocation of knee joint is a rare injury. Any orthopaedic surgeon would have faced only a few cases of unreduced neglected dislocation in his life time practice. We report the case of a 30-year old male p...
Trapezius Rotational Flap for Cervico-thoracic Wound Breakdown in Post-radiotherapy Necrosis : A Case Report
The management of post-radiation wound breakdown over the posterior cervico thoracic region can be a challenging task for a surgeon. The aim of the treatment is to produce a well vascularized and a low tensile flap which...
Safety Issues and Neurological Improvement following C1-C2 Fusion using C1 Lateral Mass and C2 Pedicle Screw in Atlantoaxial Instability
The evolution of instrumentation methods for C1-C2 fusion from the use of posterior wiring methods to transarticular screws and C1 lateral mass with C2 pedicle screw construct have improved fusion rates to almost 100%. H...
