Abstract
In the current article the syncretism of social mythological consciousness of the most ancient epoch is investigated. The main features of this phenomenon include essential anthropomorphism, syncretism, and syncrete. Old Testament texts are analyzed, which show that Old Testament syncretes are creative, borrowings from Sumerian written culture. The transition from the assigning type of management to the producing type generates reflection and criticality of human thinking. This contributes to the destruction of mythological consciousness and the emergence of initial scientific forms. Methods and techniques of diachronic linguistics and methods of cognitive description of the oldest and medieval texts make it possible to establish the semantics of linguistic units – syncretes, which have turned into “frozen metaphors”. They are preserved in the vocabulary of modern languages after the annihilation of ancient mythological consciousness
