SIX SIGMA AS A TOOL OF INNOVATION IN HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS

Abstract

Innovation involves developing a new product, method or process, or enhancing the existing, and it has become a decisive criterion to gain competitive advantage for the survival of businesses. Numerous instruments and techniques can be utilized during innovation process. The aim of this study is to demonstrate that six sigma approach, which is an enhancement and design tool, can be used during innovation process. In this study, six sigma approach, innovation concept, and the relation between innovation and six sigma are tried to be explained. Again in the study, some innovation examples from health organizations and examplary uses of six sigma approach in health organizations as an innovation tool are provided. As a result of this study, it is suggested that six sigma approach can be implemented as an innovation tool in health organizations.
