Abstract

In this article, It was dealt with a problem related to the selection of seal material that needed by machine manufacturer. Axiomatic Design (AD) method was used for solving this problem and solution was showed step-by-step. Axiomatic Design method, is one of multiple criteria decision making method, contributes to the solution in combined calculation of abstract and concrete values during decision-making process. In this study, minimum limits of seal material required (design parameters–DP) were determined for working site. Then, possible seal materials were chosen from inside of research area between these limits created in material table. System intervals were determined according to the functional requirements (FR) of these materials. Among these, the selection of seal material that had smallest information axiom in total and that was suitable for probability distribution ranges was decided. Data of criteria dependent design parameters affecting selection process of seal material was compiled from theoretical analyses and the stages of AD decision-making process were presented to one who will make similar application.
