Smart Antennas Adaptive Beamforming through Statistical Signal Processing Techniques
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Computer and Communication Technology - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 7
Abstract
The smart antenna improves the performance of wireless communication systems by increasing channel capacity and spectrum efficiency, extending range of coverage, steering multiple beams to track several mobiles. Smart antenna may direct main lobe, with increased gain, in the direction of angle of arrival (AOA) of the user (or desired signal), and direct nulls in direction away from the main lobe or in the AOA of interfering signals. For this purpose different adaptive algorithms are available to calculate the optimum weight vectors, to form phased beam, and to minimize the Mean Square Error (MSE).Least Mean Square (LMS) adaptive algorithm is preferred for Beam forming, because it is simple and easy to implement, but the error convergence is slow. In this paper Kernel Least Mean Square (KLMS) Algorithm is proposed to overcome the short comings (like MSE) of existing algorithms for a robust smart antenna system.
