Smoking, a cause of unsuccessful agin

Abstract

Smoking in elderly is still a frequent phenomenon and it represents a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Smoking is also an important cause of acceleration of processes that accompany physiological aging. Both elements are directly responsible for the so-called unsuccessful aging. Although smoking cessation, even at an advanced age, has beneficial effects, smoking cessation counseling of elderly may be a real challenge for doctors. The use of therapeutic means that have demonstrated their efficacy in adult population can be, with certain reserves, a viable alternative for smoking cessation in the elderly.
