Social assessment of family businesses’ activities

Abstract

Family businesses are an important part of the SME sector, both in Poland and in other European countries. They produce about 10% of GDP and employs about 20% of the workforce. Familiarity of these companies can be both a com-petitive advantage and generate problems which are not of such non-familial conflicts company - family or succession. Area of activity is often local in nature by which they affect local communities. A social assessment of their business depends on their impact on the local labor market and the economic situation of cities or regions. In general, the activities of family businesses is assessed posi-tively, among others of the impact on the economic situation of the city and the labor market, quality of products, and people are willing to buy their products, encourage the adoption of tradition and family spirit and accept support from local governments.
