Social Service of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart for Tribal People

Abstract
The congregation of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart was started at Irdayakulam on February 11, 1903 by a Jesuit Priest Rev. Fr. Adrian Caussanel. The Charism of the founder permeates the entire life of the Congregation. Its ministry consists in spreading the Good news of liberation to the poor neglected and marginalized sections of the society of the tribal area, liberating them from poverty, corruption, ignorance and superstition. The Brothers tried to civilize the Kanis and Pazhiger tribal people. For the benefit of the tribal people, many social services had started at Kanthalore in the Kerala State. For the welfare of the tribal people of Jawadhu Hills at Athipattu in Tiruvannamalai District, Sericulture Silk Weaving, Cattle breeding, spinning mill, Rice Powder Mill etc, were founded by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Many developed schemes were framed for the Hill tribes of Badra Chalam in Andhra Pradesh, Gulbarga of Karnataka and Dhani of Madhya Pradesh.
