SOME OBSERVATIONS ON A LEAD STATUETTE OF HERAKLES FROM PISIDIA

Abstract
In this article a lead Herakles statue found in Pisidia is evaluated. Exhibiting pretty rough workmanship the statue presents a supra-regional iconographic appearance with lion post on the left arm and gnarled stick on the right hand put on ground. However, it is surprisingly similar to past rock carvings, stele or reliefs found in Pisidia region with apple she hold in his right hand. In addition, Herakles has a regional character both in small and big works in Pisidia in general with stocky, big-headed and thick-necked appearance. In this study, a part of Herakles descriptions made of different material were compared under the light of lead statue dated back to 2 – 3th centuryAD in Pisidia and iconographic features of Herakles have been revealed. Architecture sculpture, stellar, rock carvings, inscriptions and coins were found related to the cult of Kakasbos/Herakles generally in Pisidia region. Archaeological data belong especially to post 1st century AD when the cult started to spread. These dates in coins date back to Early Hellenistic period.
