SOPRATTUTTO NON TROPPO GENIO BREVE STORIA DELLA TRADUZIONE IN ITALIA

Abstract
"We need an eye which can see the past in its place with its definite differences from the present, and yet so lively that it shall be as present to us as the present. This is the creative eye", Thomas Sterne Eliot nel 1920 riconosceva già nell’attività traduttiva la lucida capacità di riconoscere il passato e ne decretava la funzione ‘sintetica’. La traduzione è un “occhio” capace di vedere il passato, riconoscerlo e farlo rivivere nel presente. La traduzione, che è sempre presente, deve essere un atto analitico e sintetico insieme, in grado di realizzare il miracolo della creazione. Nelle tracce eliotiane ravvisiamo la traiettoria della riflessione sulla traduzione in Italia. Passato, presente, vita, creazione sono le parole che ci permettono di identificare nella storia culturale italiana una vitalità in linea e, a volte, in anticipo rispetto al dibattito europeo e internazionale.
