Journal Title: Turkish Academic Research Review - Year 2021, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
Ahmed Hasīb Efendi, one of the scholars of the 18th century in Ottoman, was a mudarris and judge for many years. Hasīb is a a poet and a historiographer who likes to write poems and has literary talent. Therefore he wrote the history called as Silkü’l-Le’āl-i Āl-i Osmān, which is from Osman Gazi until the end of the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, completely in verse. The work, which is the longest verse chronicle written in Turkish, consists of 19.727 couplets. Silkü’l-Le’āl-i Āl-i Osmān also draws attention in terms of its sources. Many works have been used from chronicles to tabaqāt and biographical sources; from poets to hagiography as well as verbal information in the study, It has been found that the most basic source of the work is the Künhü’l-Ahbār of Mustafa Ālī as a result of the research, The second important source is Taşköprīzāde Ahmed Efendi’s Şakāiku’n-Nu‘māniyye. In particular, this work has been the main source in the biographies of the ulema and sufis. Sources used other than these two works are shown under separate titles. Hasib also handled the rumors which he did not agree with and expressed his views on them clearly in his work. It is also understood that he sometimes made a comparative reading between sources. These issues have been tried to be demonstrated with witness couplets in this study.
