Space of the city – artistic activities of the art group M37A

Abstract
The article raise the issue of actions organised by art group M37A in urban space of Cracow. The process of realisation was described in details, starting from the inspiration and the origin of idea, through the realisation (preparations, logistics, organisation, course of works), to the presentation of works with discussion. On the basis of personal experience, as the organiser and the participant, but also after conversation with other participants, there where described some phenomenon which occurred during the open air actions in urban space. The article shows relations on many levels, such as: artist – space, space – object (creative activity), object – inhabitants, event – recipient. This work points out the aspect of extension of artistic field activity from gallery, therefore annexation and temporary change of urban space function. It usually results in not only temporary change, but also in added and deepened iconosphere of the place. The conclusion is an attempt to specify the role of artistic actions in urban space and the influence of their specific characteristics and relations on functioning of the urban, public space.
