SPATIAL CULTURAL AND ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF THE SYRIAN REFUGEES IN KİLİS CITY

Abstract
In Tunisia, uprisings began in December of 2010 and are known as the Jasmine Revolution, soon spread to North Africa and the Middle East. This process began in Syria in March 2011, due to the presence of armed intervention in the ring Assad regime has turned into a civil war. Syria in five years in a heavily experienced civil war in the country and outside the country, many Syrians have been displaced. Millions of Syrians were forced to leave their country and become refuges due to the civil war in Syria. Turkey is the country most affected by migration from the Syrian refugees. Kilis, one of border provinces, is under pressure from a large population of Syrian refugees. In this study, creating the space of Syrian refugees living in Kilis, the impact of cultural and spatial adaptation process on the place and the economic structure in it is evaluated. To this end, a comprehensive literature review and fieldwork was conducted. In the field study, face to face survey with 140 Syrian refugees who settled in different neighborhoods of the city, in-depth interview techniques and participant observation methods were applied. The population of the research consists of Syrian refugees living outside the refugee camp in Kilis. The simple random sampling method was used to determine the sample group. Office and field studies provided qualitative data obtained by analyzing data evaluated by descriptive analysis method. The population of the Syrian refugee population is more than the locals. The amount of population and population density in the city has increased rapidly due to emigration. With the population growth in the city, social, spatial, cultural and economic differences and problems have emerged.
