SPATIAL DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN ThE REPUBLIC OF BULGARIA – POSSIBILITIES FOR AChIEVING SUSTAINABILITY IN A REGIONAL CONTEXT

Abstract
This article analyzes and evaluates the problems and challenges to achieve sustainable spatial development of tourism in Bulgarian municipalities and regions. Spatial development of tourism is related to revealing the com- binations of natural geographic, administrative, economic, histori- cal and ethnographic features and particularities of a given tourist region or destination. Thus, differentiation of individual territories to larger or smaller regions reflects their aggregated, complex ap- pearance to the fullest extent. In the context of sustainable devel- opment we need to achieve ecological tolerance, social justice and economic viability of tourism. In this case, the so-called principle of relative integrity and partly homogeneity should be applied.
