Spatial modelling of quality parameters for the shallow groundwaters of the Moldavian Platform
Journal Title: Analele stiintifice ale Universitatii "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" din Iasi - seria Geologie - Year 2012, Vol 58, Issue 2
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to estimate the continuous spatial distribution for certain quality (contents of Na+, K+, Mg2+, SO4 2-, HCO3 - and TDS) related to the shallow groundwaters of the Moldavian Plateau. The analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), starting from 71 measurement points, was chosen for this purpose. The potential predictors for the spatial variation of groundwater quality that our study takes into account are the following: X and Y coordinates of points, digital elevation model (DEM), terrain slope, topographic wetness index, de Martonne aridity index, land use, surface lithology and soil classes. Compared to other methods, the analysis of the covariance has the advantage of allowing the integration of the qualitative variables as predictors. The results show that 32–45% of the spatial variation of the analysed parameters is explained by ANCOVA models, using as main predictors the de Martonne aridity index, terrain slope, X coordinate (the west-east spatial trend), land use and soil classes.

The distribution of the major elements in the stream sediments from the Jijia River basin
The aims of the present study are to assess the normal variation limits of nine major chemical elements from the stream sediments of the Jijia river basin, as well as to explain the presence of any anomalous values. Stat...
Presence of the genus Choerolophodon (Proboscidea: Mammalia) within the Moldavian Platform framework (Eastern Carpathians Foreland, Romania)
The reassignment of a mandible fragment bearing an m3 and also a left upper tusk previously described as “Mastodon (Tetralophodon) grandicissivum” to Choerolophodon cf. anatolicus is the leading goal of the paper. The re...
Juraphyllites bucovinicus (UHLIG, 1900) – A rare phyloceratid species from the Early Jurassic of the Praşca klippe (Rarău Syncline, Eastern Carpathians, Romania)
In 1900, Uhlig proposed five new species of ammonites and one brachiopod species, Early Jurassic in age, from the Praşca Klippe (Rarău Syncline, Eastern Carpathians). “Rhacophyllites” bucovinicus is the only phyllocerati...
Removal of chromium ions through adsorption onto activated carbon: equilibrium study
The equilibrium studies for dichromate anion adsorption from aqueous solution on commercial activated carbon (CAC) were carried out under different conditions of the initial concentrations (0.02 to 0.4 mg mL-1), the adso...
Oligocene fish fauna and sedimentological particularities of the Bituminous Marls of the Vrancea Nappe, Eastern Carpathians, Romania
The study was conducted in the Bistriţa Half-Window, Vrancea Nappe, in the Bituminous Marls, which is an intriguing entity, both ichthyological and sedimentological. Formally considered a monotonous lithostratigraphic un...
