SPATIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE TRAMWAY TRANSPORT OF A BIG CITY (ON EXAMPLE OF KYIV)

Abstract
The purpose of a research is the economic-geographical analysis of the modern spatial organization of tramway transport in the capital of Ukraine. The history of the formation of the tramway system in Kyiv was traced; the value of the tramway connection in the modern system of urban transport of the capital was shown; the determination of the main directions of its development was defined. The tramway is the oldest means of public transport of the capital of Ukraine, its first line started its functioning in 1891. In the last 25 years, the Kyiv tramway system was degraded. At the same time, since 1978 in the high-developed countries there is a process of the revival of tramway systems in cities. The retrieval of tramway lines in Kyiv is important for the improvement of transport system functioning. The novelty of the research is that the socio-geographical aspects of the development of tram transport in a large city were considered. For the first time, for this type of transport a thematic map of pedestrian accessibility of its stops and their role in provision of passenger traffic of metro and urban rail was developed.
