SPECIFICITY OF CREATING OF COMICAL EFFECT IN AMERICAN SITUATIONAL COMEDY (CASE STUDY OF SITCOM “SEX AND THE CITY”)

Abstract
This article observes the category of comical from the position of linguistics and poetics of a literary text; on the case study of sitcom “Sex and the City” it is defined the specificity of creating of comical effect in a situational comedy on all lingual levels (lexical, syntactical). It is proved that the most widely spread stylistic devices, which verbalize the comical effect, are: metaphor, metonymy, epithet, hyperbole, antonomasia, simile and pun. It is characterized some functions of using irony as a trope: for depicting personages’ characters and their specific features, for revealing comical sides of modern life and peculiar situations. Some lexical and semantic groups of metaphors are singled out in the speech of heroes of TV-show: metaphors, connected with life, and metaphors, connected with people. The occasional words, which are used by heroines of sitcom for expressing their sarcastic attitude to men and everything that deals with them are outlined in this article. The statistic results of the most frequently used means of creating comical effect among figures of substitution are given.
