SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SDTV, HDTV AND UHDTV CAMERAS

Abstract
Approaches to the evaluation of color fidelity in the standard, high and ultra-high definition television systems and in the related applications, depending on the spectral characteristics of the cameras, are considered. The calculation ratios for determination spectral characteristics of cameras and for determi-nation primary color signals of objects, defined by spectral reflectivity characteristics, are presented. Tables of values of the spectral characteristics of ideal cameras, providing undistorted color reproduction, are pre-sented. Evaluation of color distortion in the form of color points shifts in uniform color space CAM02-UCS, based on the implementation of color appearance model CIECAM02, adopted by the CIE as the most perfect model in the coming years, is provided. The evaluation of inaccuracy of color reproduction of cameras, which implement CIE 1931 colorimetry, with respect to the cameras which implement CIE 2006 colorimetry is provided, and it is shown that the transition from the use of CIE 1931 colorimetry to the use of CIE 2006 colorimetry wouldn’t lead to noticeable increase of color rendering fidelity. The evaluation of the real cameras color rendering fidelity is done and it is shown that the "standard" SDTV camera with linear matrix [TECH 3355] compared to the ideal camera provides practically undistorted color reproduction.
