Spectral Investigations and Emission Properties Of Ho3+ Doped Different Phosphate Glasses For 2µm Laser Materials

Journal Title: International Journal of Engineering and Science Invention - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 5

Abstract

Ho3+ doped different phosphate glasses with chemical compositions 69.5NH4H2PO4 -15 Na2CO3- 15MCO3) (M=Li, Mg, Ca and Ba) were prepared using melt quenching method. For these glasses, structural and spectroscopic properties were characterized through X-ray diffraction, optical absorption, photoluminescence and solid state 31P NMR techniques. From the absorption spectra, spectral intensities (fexp and fcal), Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters (Ω2, Ω4, Ω6), total radiative transition probabilities (AT), radiative lifetimes (τR) and branching ratios (βR) were obtained for all Ho3+ doped phosphate glass matrices. From the photoluminescence spectra, peak stimulated emission cross-sections (σe) were calculated for different Ho3+ doped phosphate glasses. The Ho3+ doped phosphate glasses show strong green emission at 545 nm and red emission at 656 nm under excitation at 450 nm. The measured lifetimes (τmeas) of the excited 5F5 state, of Ho3+ were obtained from decay profiles. From this analysis, it is concluded that Ho3+ doped Li phosphate glass exhibit relatively better properties for the application in mid infrared laser at a wavelength of 2.0 µm.
