Speech Volume Monitor for Hearing Impaired
Journal Title: International Journal on Computer Science and Engineering - Year 2010, Vol 2, Issue 6
Abstract
Hearing impaired can be classified into people who were affected by birth and those who developed the problem at a later stage. The second category knows how to speak but cannot hear them. They encounter embarrassment by not adjusting their speech levels to their surroundings. In this paper the development of a system helps them to adjust their speech volume to the surrounding taking into consideration the ambient noise. It is achieved by using VAD (Voice Activity Detector) and spectral estimation for the speech spectrum. The system proposed will generate pulses which tell the user to raise or lower the volume.
