SPRUCE BARK POLYPHENOLIC EXTRACT INFLUENCES ON SAGE (SALVIA OFFICINALIS L.) INTERNAL STRUCTURE
Journal Title: Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Serie noua, Sectiunea II a. Biologie vegetala - Year 2017, Vol 63, Issue 1
Abstract
The paper presents histo-anatomical aspects for sage (Salvia officinalis L.) species grown under the influence of spruce bark polyphenolic extract (SBPE). Sage was choose given the fact that it's well knew as an aromatic herb used in food industry, cosmetics, perfumery and medicine with great antioxidant, antimicrobial and antitumor activities that could be considerated as a promising tool in the field of alternative medicine. Spruce bark polyphenolic extract was characterized in a previous paper. It was noticed, compared with the control that spruce bark polyphenolic extract in lower concentrations has positive effects that can be attributed to their antioxidant properties. At a higher concentration of the extract intensification of the process of lignification is noticed. The results recorded in this study confirm some of the hypotheses that were previously mentioned and open new pathways of research in the field. The first investigation of cellular and molecular biology demonstrate that they are absolutely necessary for an overall understanding of the polyphenolic compounds action mode in plants.
