Stability of mountain glades in the Bieszczady National Park
Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2010, Vol 18, Issue 1
Abstract
A study carried out in the Bieszczadzki National Park, over 60 years after the cessation of use of the mountain glades, indicate a considerable decrease in the number of glades (by 41%) and their area (by 81%). Significant for the stability of glades are following factors: elevation, degree of a slope (positive correlation), the perimeter/area ratio, the /length of the period without management, relative insolation, percentage of pastures, and the depth of soil (negative correlation). No relationship for the stability of glades with their perimeter and area, topographic index, and the type of neighbouring tree stands has been found.
