State of Lipid Peroxidation and Antioxidant Defense System in Newborns Requiring Artificial Lung Ventilation
Journal Title: Здоров`я дитини - Year 2013, Vol 7, Issue 50
Abstract
The article deals with studying indicators of lipid peroxidation (TBA-active products, lipid hydroperoxides, diene conjugates) and antioxidant defense (superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, vitamins A and E) in the blood of newborns on synchronized intermittent ventilation with pressure support and spontaneous breathing with continuous positive airway pressure via nasal cannula. The results show a more significant activation of lipid peroxidation system in newborns on synchronized intermittent ventilation with pressure support. The level of TBA-active products, lipid hydroperoxides, diene conjugates in their blood is 1.4 times higher, than the corresponding rates in children on continuous positive airway pressure via nasal cannula. In addition to activation of lipid peroxidation we observed a decrease of antioxidant protection in newborns on synchronized intermittent ventilation with pressure support. The level of superoxide dismutase in erythrocytes was 1.3 times lower, glutathione peroxidase in erythrocytes — 1,7 times lower, the serum level of vitamin A — 2.8 times lower and the serum vitamin E — 2.2 times lower comparing with newborns on continuous positive airway pressure via nasal cannula.
