STATIC AND DYNAMIC SOUNDINGS IN THE SOIL INVESTIGATION FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTIONS

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2011, Vol 446, Issue 446

Abstract

The paper presents preliminary results of regional studies carried out along the Kraków–Korczowa (eastern state border) section of designed A4 highway. The studies included: one and a half hundred cone penetration tests (CPTU), sixty dynamic soundings (DPL) and sixty field vane tests (FVT) executed in various lithologic and genetic soil types. The results provided mean values and distribution of measured parameters obtained for particular lithologic and genetic soil types: loesses, boulder clays originating from the Southern Polish Glaciation, alluvial muds, fluvisols and minor alluvial, glacial sands and gravels. Mutual correlations between measured parameters were calculated and clear dependencies were disclosed, especially for loesses, boulder clays and Miocene clays. These results may allow the researchesto interchange various types of soundings.
