STATINS: TUMOUR TARGETING SYSTEM

Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 7

Abstract

Statins or 3-hydroxy-methylglutaryl coenzyme-A (HMG-CoA) reductase inhibitors are cholesterol synthesis inhibitors. Statins are commonly prescribed drugs for the prevention of cardiovascular disease resulting from hypercholesterolemia. However, research study on statins showed pleiotropic effects, independent of cholesterol reduction. Tumor targeting of statins are supported by pleiotropic effects. Statins can be able to target tumour in drug delivery system. This review highlights the tumor targeting of statins in drug delivery systems and their applications.
