Steady-State Seepage Analysis of Embankment Dam using Geo Studio Software
Journal Title: JOURNAL OF ADVANCED RESEARCH IN CONSTRUCTION AND URBAN ARCHITECTURE - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
The construction of dams is an earliest and the most fundamental of civil engineering activities. As it requires a large amount of concrete to construct a concrete dam, it is preferable to build embankment dam or a composite dam in which, the spillway portion of the dam is made of concrete and rest of the body of the dam is constructed as an embankment dam to minimize the cost and usage large amount of concrete. SEEP/ W is a CAD software product used to analyze groundwater seepage and excess pore-water pressure dissipation problems within porous materials such as soil and rock. This can be applied to the analysis and design of geotechnical, hydro geological and mining engineering projects. In this project, we used theSoftware tool for analysing Steady-state seepage through an Embankment dam by allocating locally available materials and by assigning imaginary boundary conditions. SEEP/ W software toolenables us to analyze different problems starting from simple steady-state condition problems to sophisticated, saturated/unsaturated time-dependent problems.
