Strategic Leadership in a Mature Inter-organizational Network

Abstract
Assuming that leadership in inter-organizational networks is a dynamic and variable phenomenon, the author concentrates on defining its characteristics as observed in mature network systems. Maturity is defined, on the one hand, in terms of progression through subsequent phases of an organization’s life and, on the other, from the perspective of a network’s level of development, using the criterion of key source of value creation. The paper primarily attempts to determine the leadership style and the types of leadership behaviors that are most appropriate to mature networks or to networks that are at the most advanced stage of development. The discussion is to be treated as a theoretical contribution to more in-depth research efforts at further exploring the issue.
