Strategic Planning for the Applications of Information and Communication Technology (ICT): A Field Study in a Sample of Jordanian Universities

Abstract

The great challenge facing the academic institutions in the Arab world is the ability to formulate a sound strategic vision and to adopt a clear mission and strategic goals and objectives fit with the (ICT) applications to achieve excellence in accomplishing its tasks and then keep up with outstanding academic institutions. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the most important areas of strategic planning for the application of (ICT) in academic institutions in general, the constraints faced by academic institutions when planning applications of (ICT), the most important strategic planning dimensions of (ICT) in these institutions and diagnose potential implications of strategic planning in Intentional sample of Jordanian public and private universities. The study adopts the conclusion that these academic institutions strategic missions must emerge from the effective and continuous evaluation of the potential opportunities and threats that faced the applications of appropriate (ICT) which support the programs and the efforts of the university in teaching, research and creative activities, and community service. Finally the study came up with a proposed framework for strategic planning for (ICT) applications in these institutions.
