Antiquorum from Freshwater Zoosporic Isolated Fungi: Maximization of Some Ameliorative Factors
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2014, Vol 63, Issue 4
Abstract
Many bacteria detect their critical cell numbers through a mechanism known as Quorum sensing (QS). Acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) mediated QS systems have been shown to operate in important human pathogens. The aim of this study is to evaluate the inhibitory effect produced by zoosporic freshwater fungi on AHLs production. A potent strain of zoosporic fungi, Leptolegniella keratinophilum, was isolated after extended screening study. A new cheap medium was used to support the anti-AHLs activities. Statistical strategy depending on two levels factorial model and three levels quadratic model were applied to guide a production maximization process. The three levels Box-Behnken model possessed the ability to optimize the significant nutritional and cultural conditions and to predict the maximal that can be achieved. The study started by anti-AHLs activities 63% and reached about 88% at the end of the study. No reported exploration for such activities in these zoosporic fungi, which can make it a novel trend. Moreover, there is no previous maximization methodology for neither the experimental medium nor the fungi. The results suggest freshwater zoosporic fungi as a prospective source against bacterial infections.

Bacterial Diversity and Abundance in Shell Biofilms from the Freshwater Snail Pleurocera canaliculatum (Cerithioidea: Pleuroceridae)
Mollusk shells provide a hard substrate for aquatic biofilm colonization. While most work has focused on bivalve shells and grazing, little work has focused on gastropod shells and the microbes growing on them. We s...
The Effect of Local Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy on the Composition of Bacterial Flora in Chronic Venous Leg Ulcer
Microbial colonisation of chronic venous ulcers and synergism between bacterial species slow down the healing process. The study aimed at performing qualitative analysis of microbial flora in venous leg ulcers treated wi...
Non-invasive Diagnostic of Helicobacter pylori in Stools by Nested-qPCR
The aim of this study was to develop a non-invasive diagnostic test for the detection of Helicobacter pylori in stool samples from digestive symptomatic patients, using a new protocol of nested-qPCR. A total of 143 patie...
Trends of Bloodstream Infections in a University Greek Hospital during a Three-Year Period: Incidence of Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria and Seasonality in Gram-negative Predominance
The aim of the study was to assess the epidemiology, the incidence of multidrug-resistant bacteria and bloodstream infections’ (BSIs) seasonality in a university hospital. This retrospective study was carried out in the...
