Identification of Some Yeasts by Fatty Acid Profiles
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2014, Vol 63, Issue 4
Abstract
One hundred and seventy eight isolates yeast species were identified using ID 32 C strip from various foods; Saccharomyces cerevisiae(47), Rodotorula mucilaginosa (19), Candida Kefyr (33), Candida Krusei (37), Candida Lusitanie (28), Candida Lipolytica (14). Yeasts were harvested, saponified, derivatized, and extracted, and fatty acid analysis was performed by Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry. Results revealed that the yeast species contained Decanoic acid (C10:0), Luaric acid (C12:0), Myristoleic acid (C14:1), Myristic acid (C14:0), Pentadecanoic acid (C15:0), Palmitoleic acid C16:1), Pamitic acid (C16:0), Heptadecenoic acid (C17:1), Linoleic acid (C18:2), Linolenic acid (C18:3), Oleic acid (C18:1) and Stearic acid (C 18:0). The differences of these fatty acids composition could be use to identify this species with an accurate, efficient and relatively rapid method.

Molecular Characterization of Enteroviruses Isolated from Acute Flaccid Paralysis Cases in Poland, 1999–2014
Enteroviruses (EVs) are among viral pathogens that can cause acute flaccid paralysis (AFP). This study represents an overview of EVs isolated through AFP surveillance in Poland between 1999 and 2014. The presence of ente...
Coomassie Blue G250 for Visualization of Active Bacteria from Lake Environment and Culture
Bacteria play a fundamental role in the cycling of nutrients in aquatic environments. A precise distinction between active and inactive bacteria is crucial for the description of this process. We have evaluated the usefu...
Epidemiology and Genotyping of Patients with Chronic Hepatitis B: Genotype Shifting Observed in Patients from Central Europe
Background: Knowledge on HBV prevalence and genotype distribution in Europe still is hampered by lack of coherent data sampling, small numbers of patients studied so far, and also modern times migration which influe...
Molecular Study of Indigenous Bacterial Community Composition on Exposure to Soil Arsenic Concentration Gradient
Community structure of bacteria present in arsenic contaminated agricultural soil was studied with qPCR (quantitative PCR) and DGGE (Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis) as an indicator of extreme stresses. Copy numb...
The probable interspecies transfer of the blaVIM-4 gene between Enterobacter cloacae and Klebsiella pneumoniae in a single infant patient
We report interspecies transfer of the bla[sub]VIM-4[/sub] gene in MBL-producing Enterobacter cloacae and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from a newborn patient who had received meropenem therapy. We sh...
