Relationship between measles outbreaks based on genetic analysis of measles virus genomes detected in patients in Poland between 2006 and 2012.T

Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2014, Vol 63, Issue 4

Abstract

This study describes the molecular characterization of 56 MeV strains obtained from clinical samples collected from 56 patients in Poland from 2006 to 2012. MeV RNA samples were analysed according to variability of C-terminal fragment of nucleoprotein gene. It has been found out that during 2006 and 20012 measles virus strains circulating in Poland belonged to genotype D4, D5, D6 and B3. The present data suggest that after 2006 the MeV strains were imported from other countries. It indicates that the transmission of indigenous measles virus strains was interrupted and Poland is on the right way to eliminate measles.
