Structural health monitoring with piezoelectric wafer active sensors – predictive modeling and simulation
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2010, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper starts a review of the state of the art in structural health monitoring with piezoelectric wafer active sensors and follows with highlighting the limitations of the current approaches which are predominantly experimental. Subsequently, the paper examines the needs for developing a predictive modeling methodology that would allow to perform extensive parameter studies to determine the sensing method’s sensitivity to damage and insensitivity to confounding factors such as environmental changes, vibrations, and structural manufacturing variability. The thesis is made that such a predictive methodology should be multi-scale and multi-domain, thus encompassing the modeling of structure, sensors, electronics, and power management. A few examples of preliminary work on such a structural sensing predictive methodology are given. The paper ends with conclusions and suggestions for further work

About zeros of some oscillations with dynamic friction
Consider a second order differential non-linear equation having free boundary value conditions. Let be a solution having infinity of unknown zeros. The integral of energy gives the implicit correlation between the succes...
Numerical Calculation of Wind Tip Vortex Formation for Different Wingtip devices
In this study numerical calculations are conducted to understand implementation of different wingtip device for wingtip vortexes formation. Numerical methods are performed over NACA 0012 winglet at the varying Reynolds n...
An Experimental Flow Field Study of a Bio-inspired Corrugated Wing at Low Reynolds Number
The present paper examined experimentally the glide flight flow visualization and boundary layers of a bio-inspired corrugated dragonfly wing performing a comparison with the results obtained with a flat plate, at low to...
Numerical simulations on increasing turbojet engines exhaust mixture ratio using fluidic chevrons
This paper refers to some aspects regarding the terms “chevron” and “fluidic chevron” and to the process of increasing the jet engines exhaust mixing rate towards achieving noise reduction. One of the noise reduction met...
Utilization of simple and double control subsonic aircraft for advanced combat training of the military pilots
The use of subsonic single control aircraft and especially of double–control ones, instead of supersonic combat aircraft in the military pilot training programs in the operational units, has be-come a necessity due to th...
