Structural peculiarities of the Chinese Internet –Sociolect neologisms.

Abstract

With the availability of the Internet and easiness of on-line communication, the increasing amount of netizens and their extrem cross-cultural communication makes favorable conditions for occurrence of Internet neologisms. Internet neologisms are new semantic formations created under network environment, whose emergence is the results of the continuous development of language and active communicative processes. Internet neologisms are embodiments of social and cultural connotations that reflect popular trends and are understandable for all netizens. Chinese netizens place the first place among the World Internet users. That caused the necessity of studying of the Chinese Internet neologisms. Chinese language as one of the isolative languages’ representative can be characterized by its morphemic significance of syllable classifications, hieroglyphic writing system etc. Phonetic abilities of the Chinese language create a new field for neologism. The article highlights current trends of Chinese Internet neologisms’ enrichment and analyzes existing approaches to distinguishing of the leading ways of Chinese Internet neologisms’ formation. The author offers an advanced word‐component analysis of Chinese Internet neologisms and defines their dominant mechanisms, by emphasizing abbreviation, homonymy and catch phrases as the most used word derivation mechanisms. The article suggests analysis of the conditions and reasons for the proposed methods of word formation with the definition of the specific features of Chinese Internet neologisms, stressing out intentional (hid the real meaning) and not intentional (misprint) reasons. The article figures out the most common features of Chinese Internet neologisms with their explanation and definition with reference to national and cultural peculiarities of Chinese language.
