Structural re-analysis of reinforced concrete flexural structures, strengthening by addition of concrete layer, under low-cycle loading

Abstract

Studies of concrete behavior for normal concrete, steel fiber concrete and expanded clay concrete (in view of the increasing importance of structural lightweight concrete) under static loading (single and low cycle loading) are conducted within the framework of the state program of scientific research in the field of “Building Materials and Technologies” at the Belarusian-Russian University. The purpose of the research is to develop the National Annex to Eurocode 2 and recommendations for reconstruction of buildings and structures. The research director is S. D. Semenyuk, Doctor of Engineering Science, Professor, the responsible person is Yu. G. Maskalkova, Ph.D. (Engineering), Associate Professor (the authors of the article). The paper presents the basic principles of design of the reinforced concrete flexural structure, strengthening by addition of concrete layer, taking into account the static low-cycle loading of different levels using the transformed stress-strain relation for concrete in compressive zone. The calculation is based on limit stress method using bi-linear stress-strain relation for concrete in compression (rectangular trapezoid stress distribution across the compression zone of cross-section).
