STUDENTS’ INDEPENDENT WORK AS A COMPONENT OF THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS AT THE UNIVERSITIES OF CANADA

Abstract

The outline of higher education in Canada is given in this work. The main point of the students’ independent work by Canadian scientists is presented. It was established that great attention is paid to the independent work of students in institutions of higher education in Canada (from 50% of the teaching load). Main types of the students’ independent work (independent work to drill theoretical knowledge, independent work to develop practical skills and research independent work) are elucidated. Today, providing students with a solid knowledge of the future specialty and accordance relevant professional competencies to them are no longer in line with the needs of the labor market because for the successful work knowledge must be constantly updated, adapted to new requirements and realities. That is why independent work of students plays an important role in the educational process of students and scientists around the world turn to the study of the theoretical and practical aspects of this didactic problem. It has been established on the basis of the analysis of scientific literature that valuable experience in organizing independent work of students is presented at higher education institutions of Canada. It can be concluded that the independent work of students is an effective method of organizing their educational activities and the introduction of Canadian experience on this issue in institutions of higher education in Ukraine would contribute to the improvement of the quality of higher education. We believe that the development of student societies and the wider implementation of individual tasks, which can be identified with assignments in Canada, would increase the effectiveness of students’ independent work.
