Study of clinical and radiological outcomes in paediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated with 3 lateral pins versus crossed pins
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Paediatric supracondylar fractures can be challenging to treat and are the most common elbow fractures in children. The most common method of treatment of displaced supracondylar humerus fractures is closed reduction and fixation with Kirschner wires. However, debate still persists regarding the configuration of pin placement for fracture stabilisation. This study compares clinical and radiological outcomes in paediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated with three lateral pin fixation and crossed pin fixation. It is a prospective study with 60 patients conducted between March 2015 and September 2016. In this study, it was found that there is no significant difference between crossed medial and lateral pin fixation and lateral entry three pin fixation in terms of stability. Lateral pinning is a considerably safer procedure to avoid iatrogenic ulnar nerve palsy. Results show that the Baumann’s Angle was well maintained with significantly lesser chances of varus collapse following cross pinning as against lateral pinning.

Treatment of type III Acromioclavicular dislocation with open reduction and percutaneous K-wire fixation
Background: The direct force acting on the shoulder from the lateral side with the arm in an adducted position is the main mechanism of injury in the vast majority of traumatic dislocations of the acromioclavicular joint...
Management of unstable distal radius fractures by ligamentotaxis with external fixation
Distal radial fractures accounts 16% in upper limb fractures. Not only management and restoration of articular compatibility is also a major task for successful recovery. External fixation, ligamentotaxis provides best f...
The floating shoulder: Ipsilateral clavicular and scapular neck fractures treatment by different methods
Introduction: Double disruptions of the superior suspensory shoulder complex (SSSC) resulting in ipsilateral mid shaft clavicular and scapular body/neck fractures, are commonly referred to as a ‘floating shoulder’ injury...
Comparision of locked compresion plate and limited contact dynamic compresion plate for internal fixation of both bone forearm
Background: The locking compression plate (LCP) is a newer modality for fracture fixation of both bone forearm fractures. The aim of the study is to compare this modality with the conventional Limited contact dynamic com...
Analysis of proximal plating versus intramedullary nailing in the treatment of extra-articular proximal tibial fractures
Extraarticular fractures of proximal tibia has been a challenging situation to most of the surgeons today. Treatment of these injuries is extremely challenging because of the inherent unstable fracture region, difficult...
