Study of clinical and radiological outcomes in paediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated with 3 lateral pins versus crossed pins
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
Paediatric supracondylar fractures can be challenging to treat and are the most common elbow fractures in children. The most common method of treatment of displaced supracondylar humerus fractures is closed reduction and fixation with Kirschner wires. However, debate still persists regarding the configuration of pin placement for fracture stabilisation. This study compares clinical and radiological outcomes in paediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated with three lateral pin fixation and crossed pin fixation. It is a prospective study with 60 patients conducted between March 2015 and September 2016. In this study, it was found that there is no significant difference between crossed medial and lateral pin fixation and lateral entry three pin fixation in terms of stability. Lateral pinning is a considerably safer procedure to avoid iatrogenic ulnar nerve palsy. Results show that the Baumann’s Angle was well maintained with significantly lesser chances of varus collapse following cross pinning as against lateral pinning.

Clinico-radiological results of unstable trochanteric fractures treated with custom-made trochanteric stabilisation plate and dynamic hip screw (DHS)
Aim: To evaluate the clinico-radiological results of implantation of Custom-made Trochanteric stabilisation plate (TSP) along with Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) in unstable trochanteric fractures and assess whether it prevents...
Our experience with the external rotation method in the reduction of anterior dislocation of the shoulder
Background: Dislocations of the shoulder are injuries frequently seen in the emergency department with the anterior type being the most common. Various methods are available in the reduction of these dislocations. The ai...
Management of comminuted distal metaphyseal tibial fractures with 3.5 mm anatomical anterolateral locking compression plate: A study of 34 cases
Introduction: Management of distal metaphyseal tibial fractures is a formidable challenge to the orthopaedic surgeon. Some of the confounding factors in management are delicate soft tissue in this area, presence of ankle...
Does anatomic locking compression plate play a vital role in maintaining length of clavicle in comminuted fracture & enhance good functional outcome
Deformity following un-united and mal-united adult clavicle fractures is being increasingly recognised as the indications for operative treatment of displaced fractures of the clavicle. Various options include low contac...
Long term outcome of lower end radius fractures treated with locking plates
Introduction: Fractures of distal end radius account for one sixth of all fractures that are seen and treated by orthopaedic surgeons. Increasing functional demand and improved methodologies of achieving and maintaining...
