Study of coagulation profile in pregnancy induced hypertension at MIMER Medical College, Talegaon Dabhade

Journal Title: MedPulse -International Medical Journal - Year 2015, Vol 2, Issue 5

Abstract

Aims and Objectives: 1) To study the coagulation profile in Pregnancy Induced Hypertension at MIMER Medical College, Talegaon Dabhade. 2) To know variation of parameters of coagulation (BT, CT, PT and APTT) between women having normal pregnancy and PIH and to establish their relationship to severity of PIH. Materials and Methods: Total number of 160 patients admitted in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology over a period of 2 years was studied. The study was carried out in two groups. 1) Study group (110 patients) 2) Control group (50 healthy pregnant women) The investigations that were carried out in all patients were platelet count, BT, CT, PT and APTT. The special tests for coagulation studies like D-Dimer were done in patients showing severely deranged coagulation. Observation and Results: PIH was seen more commonly in prim gravidae. The platelet count and coagulation parameters in mild pre – eclamsia did not show any deviation. In severe pre – eclamsia and eclampsia, severe thrombocytopenia was noted. In these patients BT, CT were normal however APTT was significantly prolonged. Conclusion: Mild eclampsia did not reveal any significant change in coagulation parameters and platelet count while severe pre – eclampsia and eclampsia were characterized by thrombocytopenia and coagulation abnormalities particularly prolongation of APTT.
