Study of pаthogenic and immunogenic properties of E. coli IBM-1 strains in the development of new immunogenic drugs

Journal Title: Біологія тварин - Year 2014, Vol 16, Issue 3

Abstract

In the prevention of colibacillosis in calves some success has been achieved, but the problem is still far from its complete resolution. The results of the study of pathogenic and immunogenic properties of E. coli IBM-1 strain gave basis for the development of new drugs. The aim was to compare the immunogenic properties of the toxins of different E. coli strains, to examine the ability of E. coli strain IBM-1 exotoxin to cause an immune response and to investigate the state of natural resistance on indicators opsono-phagocytic reaction serum after immunization with “Metakol” vaccine. Infection was performed daily with cultures of the respective strains to determine the lethal dose. It has been found that in comparison with other field strains of E. coli IBM-1 strain causes 100 % lethality in laboratory animals after parenteral dosing LD100 = 850 x 106 CFU/cm 3. The results from the study of immunogenic properties of the “Metakol” vaccine show that animals in research groups which were immunized with vaccine containing the E. coli IBM-1 strain are protected against colibacillosis by 70–80 %. It has been established that immunization of heifers with “Metakol” vaccine before calving activates the process of phagocytosis by 7 % and its intensity by 6 % compared with unvaccinated livestock heifers. It has been established that the drug has the ability to create specific immunity against other E. coli strains, as well as a means for the prevention and treatment of colibacillosis of young animals. In the long-term the studies on the immunogenic properties of the vaccine of E. coli IBM-1 strain should be continued to create new products.
