Study of stability of gel with essential oils for the treatment of diseases of upper respiratory tract

Journal Title: Фармацевтичний журнал - Year 2015, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

At this stage, the stability of the gel was studied to determine the shelf life of the developed medicine means both at room temperature and in a cool place. The goal of our research was to study the shelf life and stability of the gel according to the developed project of ARD on the following parameters: appearance (homogeneous mass without impurities), color (should correspond to the color of the gel), smell (should correspond to the smell of gel), colloid stability (should be stable ), the pH of 10% solution of the gel (should be between 5.5–7.0), the weight of the content of tuba (permissible deviation from the nominal weight ± 1,2 g) and microbiological purity. The investigations were made with samples of the developed gel composed of essential oils of ginger (1%), clary sage (1%), marjoram (0.5%) and tea tree oil (0.5%). Appearance, color, odor, and colloidal stability during the expected shelf life were stable and corresponded to the requirements of ARD. During analysis of the microbiological purity of the gel absence of bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa was proved. Total number of bacteria is not more than 10 CFU/g. Number of fungus is less than 10 CFU/g. The results prove that the gel samples correspond to the requirements of Pharmacopoeia of Ukraine for microbiological purity for non-sterile ready medicines. It was experimentally proved that the pH was stable for all series of samples of the gel. The weight of tuba was within the limits of 30.0–32.0. Studies showed that after centrifugation was no separation of gels, temperature change also didn`t affect the stability of developed medicines during 24 months. Thus, these data allow us to recommend the shelf life of 2 years in a cool place at room temperature in aluminum tubas.
