Abstract
Bone homeostasis is maintained by cellular and molecular events. To meet the requirements of skeletal growth and mechanical function, bone undergoes dynamic remodelling by a coupled process of bone resorption by osteoclasts and reformation by osteoblasts1. 700 Bank employees of age between 30 years and 60 years were subjected to Quantitative ultrasound screening of calcaneum to assess the bone mineral density. The values thus obtained were tabulated and subjected to chi square test to assess the incidence of osteopenia and osteoporosis. The results were subjected to Chisquare test and the results were found to be statistically not significant which means the incidence of this morbidity can be at any age group. The statistical derivation supports the theory of osteopenia and osteoporosis affecting the younger age group as against the theory of it being a disease of elderly. Thus the need for screening bone mineral density during health checkups is stressed.

A study of FEV1 in relation to body mass index among smokers
Background: FEV1 is the most specific and dependable measure of airway obstruction. Because of the reliability and simplicity of equipment needed to measure FEVI this parameter is used most frequently to measure bronchia...
Cognitive status in hypothyroid patients before and after attainment of euthyroidstate: A prospective study at tertiary care centre
Background: Thyroid hormones have profound effects on the central nervous system and the consequences of overt hypothyroidism are well known. In contrast, there is less evidence regarding cognitive effects of subclinical...
Influence of digit ratio (2D:4D) on reaction time and athletic sprint performance: A short term pilot study
Digit Ratio is the ratio between the lengths of index finger to that of Ring finger. Recent evidence suggests that the relative length of the 2nd to 4th finger (2D: 4D ratio) is a biomarker for prenatal exposure to testo...
The effect of external pressure on two point discrimination test and pain threshold in healthy individuals and clinically diagnosed patients of carpal tunnel syndrome
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the commonest form of entrapment neuropathy which is the combination of symptoms and signs resulting from compression of the median nerve when it passes through the bony carpal tunne...
25 hydroxy vitamin D status and cognitive impairment in the elderly among Indian population
Background: Cognitive function is a major determinant of quality of life in older age. The number of elderly subjects who will suffer from cognitive impairment and dementia will further increase in the near future.Cognit...
