Abstract

Abstract Background & Aim: Domestic violence is a global and universal problem that is the third leading cause of death or physical disability in women after cancer and road accidents. In pregnant women who are under violence, abortion, diabetes, hypertension, bleeding, Placenta previa, preeclampsia and the risk of early birth and weight loss in the fetus have been reported. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between domestic violence and pregnancy outcomes in mothers referring to community health centers in Sanandaj from 2015 to 2016. Methods & Materials: This cohort study was descriptive-analytic and was conducted in 2015-2016. The aim of this study was to collect data from 750 women who referred to health centers in Sanandaj for the first time after delivery. Mothers' questionnaire and health records were completed by interview and observation. Data analysis was done using SPSS software version 20, independent t-test and Chi-square test. P-value was less than 0.05. Results: Comparison of the findings showed that the mean weight (2957±335, 3201 43±6) of newborns in the experimental group was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.0001). The age at birth of infants was 56.6% in the experimental group and 43.4% in the control group under 37 weeks (P<0.0001). Also, there was a significant relationship between rupture of fetal curves and domestic violence (OR=0.547 with confidence 95%: 0.314-0953). Conclusion: Violence in pregnant women causes complications for them and their fetus. In this study, domestic violence in pregnant women caused weight loss for the infant and early delivery.
