Study of the Status of Educational Philosophy and Determining the Dominant Philosophy from the Point of View of High School Principals of Ardebil City

Abstract

This research has been carried out with the aim of studying the status of educational philosophy from the principals’ point of view, and the dominant educational philosophy in the high schools of Ardebil city. The method of descriptive research is correlation. The statistical population of research consists of 60 high school principals in Ardebil city. Of this population,50 principals were selected by multistage random sampling method using Krejcie and Morgan Table. The required information was collected through Khalkhali and Rahmati Educational Philosophy Questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods (One-Sample t Test). The results of t-test showed that in the population under study, the reconstructionism, progressivism, and existentialism philosophies have a good standing from the principals’ point of view while the philosophy of behaviorism, naturalism, and perennialism does not enjoy a good status in the opinion of principals. Also the results of studying descriptive indicators showed that according to the principals, the dominant educational philosophy is the philosophy of progressivism.
