Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Gynaecology - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1

Abstract

Background: The risks and complications depend upon the type of hysterectomy performed, the individual woman's health status, and the surgeon's expertise and experience. Aim: To study the types and complications of abdominal hysterectomy. Material and Methods: In this prospective study a total of 150 cases of abdominal hysterectomy were operated for different indications with different types of abdominal hysterectomy. The complications were followed up and managed accordingly. Results: Most of the patients i.e., 90 (60%) underwent TAH with BSO followed by TAH with USO in 30 (20%) and TAH in 25 (16.67%) cases. There were 2 patients who had undergone modified radical hysterectomy. The incidence of wound infection was 7.33% and 5.33% patients developed febrile morbidity after 24 hours of surgery. Conclusion: The type of hysterectomy procedure should be considered according to the patient’s disease. In general, to ensure the efficacy and safety of the peration, the most minimally invasive surgery should be chosen.
